This refined porcelain plate is a beautiful example of a brilliant antique object with a story. It concerns Amsterdams bont: Chinese porcelain that came to the Netherlands in the 18th century via the trade routes of the Dutch East India Company and was subsequently enriched with colourful enamel decorations in Amsterdam.
In a time when tastes changed and people longed for more vibrant dinnerware, a creative home industry emerged in Amsterdam that overpainted imported blue-and-white porcelain with red and additional hues. This plate beautifully showcases that tradition with an elegant floral composition in blue and red, lightly placed on the glossy surface. The result is an object that is both historically interesting and decoratively appealing.
Thanks to its good condition and pleasant size, this saucer is particularly suitable for collectors of export porcelain, but also as a subtle accent in a display cabinet, on a table setting, or in an eclectic interior where authenticity is appreciated.
