Freek Johannes was born in 1907 in Groningen and passed away in 1987. He was a Dutch artist known for his paintings and graphic work. From July 1946 to July 1950, Drost served in Indonesia as part of the army. In his free time, Drost drew and painted extensively, writing in his diary about the inspiration he drew from the beautiful country and its friendly people.
