original specimen of Japanese occupation money of 5 guilders, issued during the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies in World War II. The banknote bears the inscription:
"The Japanese Government pays the bearer five guilders"
and features characteristic Japanese and tropical decorations, including palm leaves and grapevines.

These banknotes were put into circulation as currency by the Japanese occupiers between 1942 and 1945
