A beautiful piece of Dutch history: this authentic silver 2 stuiver coin was minted in the province of Utrecht in the year 1787. These coins, also known as "double coat of arms stuivers", served as circulating currency during the period of the Dutch Republic (the Seven United Netherlands).

This coin dates from a tumultuous period in Dutch history, just before the Batavian Revolution and the end of the Republic. The reverse (avers) shows the crowned coat of arms of the province of Utrecht, with the denomination "2 S" on either side. The obverse (revers) bears the Latin text TRAIECTUM, the historical name for the city of Utrecht. The coins were minted at the Royal Dutch Mint in Utrecht.
