An exceptional copy of the renowned map "Geographische beschryvinge van het Ioodtsche Landt". This object is not merely a geographical document, but a historical monument from the golden age of Dutch cartography.
Produced by the master Claes Jansz. Visscher (Nicolaum Ioannis Piscator), this sheet is a textbook example of the refined copperplate engraving for which Amsterdam was world-famous in the 17th century.
What makes this particular copy a museum-quality rarity is the presence of the original binder's margin at the bottom: "Dese Kaerte wert gestelt voor het Evangelium Matthei". While such texts have often been cut away by binders or dealers over the centuries, this sheet has been preserved in its full historical glory.
The map served as the visual starting point for the New Testament in the prestigious Statenbijbels of the time.
