This exceptional antique silver box is a magnificent example of craftsmanship from the late 18th or early 19th century, a period when such objects were status symbols. Originally designed as a snuff box (to store snuff tobacco) or a lozenge box (with a scented sponge), it now serves perfectly as an elegant mint box, pillbox, or a refined collector's item.
The box has a charming, contoured shape and is richly and intricately engraved on both the top and bottom. The engravings show characteristics of the popular Rococo or Biedermeier style, with symmetrical floral and scroll motifs around a central cartouche.
