Perhaps in your home.

This fine 18th-century Chinese export porcelain plate dates from the Qianlong period, ca. 1750–1770. The plate is made of characteristic blue-and-white porcelain and features an atmospheric Chinese landscape with pavilions, trees, rocks, and water in the center. The rim is richly decorated with geometric patterns, flowers, and birds.

The refined blue-and-white decoration was applied with cobalt blue under the glaze, a technique that was perfected in porcelain production in Jingdezhen. The combination of the picturesque landscape and the decorative rim is characteristic of the high-quality Chinese porcelain exported to Europe in the 18th century.

On the reverse side, several small firing and glazing marks, including some dark iron inclusions, are visible. This type of irregularity is part of the original production process and is not uncommon in antique Chinese porcelain.

An attractive and authentic piece of Qing porcelain from the Qianlong period, interesting for collectors and beautiful as a decorative object.

Historical context

During the Qianlong period, international trade in Chinese porcelain grew rapidly. Large quantities of blue-and-white porcelain were exported to Europe from Jingdezhen, China's most important porcelain center. Chinese porcelain was particularly popular there and was collected by royal courts and wealthy families.

This plate is therefore not only a beautiful decorative object, but also a tangible reminder of the 18th-century trade and collecting culture surrounding Chinese porcelain.
