This authentic 18th-century bed warmer is a magnificent example of practical household goods from the past, crafted from beautiful yellow copper with a long wooden handle. The copper work features a clearly visible maker's mark and is richly decorated with the monogram IHS, a common symbol in the Catholic tradition, representing the name of Jesus Christ (Iesus Hominum Salvator – "Jesus, Savior of Men").

In the 18th century, the bed warmer was used to pre-heat the bed. Hot coals were placed in the copper pan, and then the pan was passed between the sheets, so that the bed was pleasantly warm before bedtime. In times without central heating, this was particularly pleasant and therefore also a valuable household item.
